Per DAFMAN 36-2905:
"Medical Exemptions. Airmen with valid medical profiles (AF Form 469, Duty Limiting Condition Report) will be evaluated only on physical fitness components they are cleared to perform. Exemptions are component-specific; a temporary or permanent medical condition that prevents participation in one component does not automatically exempt an Airman from the remaining components."
â ī¸ DAFMAN 36-2905 Requirement: "Airmen must print out a physical copy of their AF Form 469 and present it to the FAC or UFPM prior to testing."
Prorated Scores. If an Airman is medically exempt from one or more components of the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA), the overall score will be calculated based on a proration of the remaining assessed components. The final score is determined by dividing the points earned on the completed components by the maximum point value of those same components, then multiplying by 100.
Examples of How Scoring Works with AF Form 469 Waivers
When you have a medical profile, the database (myFitness) automatically alters the math denominator. Instead of a 100-point total scale, your total possible points shrink to match only the events your doctor cleared you to do.
Example 1: One Component Exempt (Run Only)
A member is exempt from the cardiorespiratory component (50 points) but cleared for all muscular fitness events and the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) body composition measurement.
Available Components:
âĸ Body Composition (WHtR): Max 20 points
âĸ Push-ups: Max 15 points
âĸ Sit-ups: Max 15 points
âĸ Total Possible Points: 50
Performance: The member completely maxes out their push-ups, sit-ups, and passes the WHtR perfectly, earning all 50 available points.
The Math:
Overall Score = (
50 Points Earned
50 Points Possible
) × 100 = 100%
Result: Excellent (100).
Example 2: Two Components Exempt (Run & Push-ups)
A member has a severe shoulder and ankle injury. Their AF Form 469 explicitly exempts them from running and push-ups, meaning they can only do sit-ups and the body composition check.
Available Components:
âĸ Body Composition (WHtR): Max 20 points
âĸ Sit-ups: Max 15 points
âĸ Total Possible Points: 35
Performance: They max out their sit-ups (15 points) and get full points on the body composition check (20 points). They earned 35 points total.
The Math:
Overall Score = (
35 Points Earned
35 Points Possible
) × 100 = 100%
Result: Excellent (100).
Example 3: Missing a Max Out (Run Exempt)
Let's say the runner is exempt from cardio (leaving 50 points possible), but they don't quite max out the gym floor. They get a perfect 20 on body composition, 12 on push-ups, and 13 on sit-ups.
âĸ Total Points Earned: 20 + 12 + 13 = 45 points
âĸ Total Points Possible: 50 points
The Math:
Overall Score = (
45
50
) × 100 = 90%
Result: Excellent (90.0).
â ī¸ The Pass Rule:
Even if the math prorates you into a high percentage, you must still hit the minimum required raw performance score for each individual event you attempt. If you score a 95% on prorated math but fail to hit the absolute baseline minimum number of push-ups for your age group, the entire test is automatically marked as a "Satisfactory/Excellent - Fail" due to a component failure.
